ULI Infrastructure Forum – 2021 Fall Meeting
Infrastructure-Oriented Development
Tuesday, October 12, 2021
10:00 am – 1:00 PM CT
In the ULI Infrastructure Forum, we examine the intersection of infrastructure, real estate, and land use. Infrastructure demands due to dynamic population shifts; flooding and storms; growing energy and technology demands; as well as lack of adequate access to transportation choices are challenging our cities and towns more than ever. The Fall session will be a reintroduction of the forum since it will be the first in person event and talk about the strong connection between infrastructure and land use.
Agenda
- Introduction and Welcome
- Forum Leadership Welcome and Re-Introduction of the Forum
- Connecting Infrastructure and Land Use to Orient Development
- Discussion on the role that infrastructure and land use plays to lay the groundwork for more equitable, resilient infrastructure investment that builds long-term community value.
- • Leveraging Infrastructure for Equitable and Resilient Development
- Examining the economic case for why smart infrastructure investments can create better outcomes for both real estate developers and communities.
- Financing Growth in a Sustainable and Equitable Way
- Expert panel discussion on financing and implementing infrastructure.
- Future Forward: Challenges and Opportunities on Infrastructure and Land Use
- Panel and forum discussion about what’s needed on this topic by ULI as we prepare for the 2022 Spring meeting in San Diego.
As infrastructure ages around the U.S., a dialogue is needed to explore the opportunities to invest in new infrastructure and re-imagine how infrastructure is built.
- How can infrastructure be used to increase the sustainability and resilience of cities and other urban areas?
- Is hardening infrastructure the best way to avoid natural disasters?
- Are there better ways to build infrastructure to mitigate disaster?
- How can we finance these extremely costly projects?
- Is capitalization an option?
- What is infrastructure in today’s and tomorrow’s digital age?
- How does infrastructure design and investment to support infill growth differ from greenfield development?
- How can we plan infrastructure efficiently for co-benefits that draw from multiple funding sources to reduce the burden on real estate?
